Since 2001, SHADH has been renting a 4 acre farm in Israel which Lucy has transformed into her "peaceable donkey kingdom", home to over 100 donkeys and mules. Discussions have been ongoing for some time with the landlord regarding the possibility of buying the land to secure the future for Safe Haven. With the charity's lease expiring and the price of land in Israel rising rapidly, unless we buy now we could face the very real problem of having nowhere for over 100 donkeys, mules and horses to go, as well as losing the base from which our vital veterinary outreach project is conducted.
We are delighted to say that we have not only managed to come to an agreement with the landlord regarding a price but that he has also allowed us 18 months to raise the £227,000 needed to complete the purchase. It sounds like such a large sum but Lucy and all her team have faith in our hearts that we can do it - we arealready imaging how wonderful it would be to be blessed with the feeling that the land is ours and that we could add things and change things as we wish, such as concreting areas, gravelling a road and erecting more shelters as the need arises.
We need your help to make Lucy's dream come true - to read a personal letter from Lucy Fensom and to find out how you can help, click here.
