Nick the donkey

Tim Wass MBE, our CEO, writes:

“It was about a year ago now when I first met our Nick.

We’ll never know how old he is but he’s certainly one of the oldest donks here, and has the bad teeth and poor physical condition to prove it. Nick and I have a lot in common!

I’ve called the Vet twice now to see if ‘the time was right’ to say goodbye him.

It’s always a tremendously difficult decision, but an essential and responsible one to protect our animals welfare.

Each time the Vet has arrived Nick’s behaved like a young foal… it’s as if he knew.

I only got back a couple of days ago and the Stable team couldn’t wait for me to see the old boy… what a difference a month has made!

He has piled the weight on! He’s almost got a new personality and then today he did something very special, he gave me a Donkey hug.

Inevitably that horrible time will come for Nick one day, but not now, nor for a while.

When it does, my commitment to him is to be right by his side until the very end.

Many regards and with so much thanks for your amazing support, Nick and Tim”
