Today, we wanted to share a little joy from our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where your kindness continues to make a world of difference to the rescue donkeys in our care.
At our rescue centre in Arrana, in the West Bank, the donkeys are enjoying some very tasty carrot and cucumber treats, as you’ll see in the heartwarming photos below.
Over in Israel, much-loved residents like Syd and Johnny are thriving – safe, loved, and free from the hardship they once endured.
Every happy moment is thanks to you. Thank you so much for all your support.
Update from our Sanctuaries
Johnny is a bit of a character. He prefers his own company and isn’t too keen on being fussed over by the team – especially when it’s time for a health check or hoof trim. It usually turns into a comical game of “catch me if you can,” with Johnny trotting off just out of reach.
He’s a small donkey with a big attitude, and a very special place in our hearts.
Here’s Johnny! For once standing still so we can take this lovely photo.
Ms Jones is not only a devoted mother but also best friends with her son, Edmund. We rescued her while she was pregnant, and thanks to your support, Edmond was born safely at the sanctuary – a new life that began in safety and care.
When he was a foal, Edmund suffered a bite from another donkey that damaged his ears. But that hasn’t held him back. Today, he’s grown into a gentle, handsome soul, never far from his mum’s side.

Syd is around 14 years old and one of our more independent residents. He likes to keep to himself, often choosing a quiet spot to relax away from the herd.
Syd has a problem with one of his eyes that affects his vision, but our team makes sure he’s as comfortable as possible – with a gentle daily clean using soft, wet wipes and plenty of patience. He is very much loved.
Handsome Syd.
And last but not least, we thought you’d enjoy a peek into one of the happiest moments of the day at our rescue centre in Arrana – snack time! Thanks to your generous support, the donkeys are treated to crunchy carrots and refreshing cucumbers, and as you’ll see, they absolutely love them.

Everything our vet teams do to support working donkeys, mules, and horses is only possible because of you. Your generosity helps us protect animals and support their owners across the West Bank, Gaza, and Egypt – as well as care for rescued donkeys at our sanctuary in Israel and our rescue centre and hospital in the West Bank.
Thank you for making this vital work possible.
