Thanks to you, our dedicated vet teams in Egypt are transforming the lives of working donkeys every single day.
Whether it’s healing painful pressure sores or carrying out delicate field surgery, your support makes this vital work possible.
I’m delighted to share just a few recent updates that show the real difference you are making for donkeys in the brick kilns of Egypt.

News from El Saf, Egypt
The brick kiln donkeys work long hours with poorly fitting harnesses, so often suffer from painful pressure sores. Our vet teams in El Saf have been treating many of these cases – cleaning, dressing, and carefully monitoring wounds to help them heal. Thanks to your support, we’ve seen wonderful progress, with the “before and after” photos below showing just how much difference the right care can make.

One of the donkeys our team saw was suffering from a fibroplastic sarcoid – a type of tumour – on his right leg near the knee joint. Dr Shaaban was able to sedate him, give a local anaesthetic around the sarcoid, and carry out a surgical incision to remove it. Because of your ongoing support, he is now recovering well.

Heavy, overloaded carts can cause injuries and long-term suffering for donkeys. That’s why Moharam has been out in the community, checking the weight of bricks being loaded and advising owners on safe practices. This vital education work helps protect donkeys from exhaustion and injury.
As well as hands on vet treatment, our team work hard to educate kiln workers on better animal welfare
We’re also delighted to share that the x-ray machine you helped fund is now in regular use. It means Dr Shaaban can diagnose injuries and conditions more quickly and accurately, giving donkeys the best chance of recovery. We hope that seeing this equipment in action is a wonderful reminder of just how much your generosity achieves.
