Our donkey update – 27th November 2025

With Christmas just around the corner, I want to thank you for everything you’ve made possible for the donkeys in our care. Your kindness has given safety to those arriving at our door with painful injuries – including little Theodora, abandoned and suffering after a dog attack.

Your support not only helps us care for hundreds of rescued donkeys in Israel and the West Bank, but also keeps our mobile vet teams working across the West Bank, Egypt and Gaza. I can’t thank you enough for your kindness.

But as winter sets in, we are seeing yet more donkeys arriving in urgent need. I hope you’ll take a moment to meet Theodora, Deborah and Arthur in this week’s update – and if you can, please click here to help us care for them.

News from our sanctuary in Israel

You may remember Deborah, who was found alone in a village in northern Negev, just two years old and already seven months pregnant.

Deborah arrived at our sanctuary around seven months pregnant.

Since arriving with us, she has settled in well and we expect her to give birth in the next three to six months. Both mother – and foal, when they arrive – will need even more support in our dedicated mare and foal unit.

Meet Theodora…

Theodora is just six-months-old and super cute!

Another recent arrival at the sanctuary is six-month-old Theodora. This super cute little foal was found west of Jerusalem and was suffering with a horrific wound. We think she had been attacked by dogs – but thanks to our daily care her injury is healing well.

Theodora loves her food – and the camera! (The red markings indicate the donkeys in need of hoof trims – it soon wears off and is completely harmless to our herd).

We thought Theodora would be company for Deborah, and we were right – the two have already become fast friends, giving each other comfort as they settle into their new home.

Meet Arthur…

Arthur is six years old and is now living his best life in our main herd.

Our third new arrival was found abandoned in the moshav Ganot in central Israel, and a local resident quickly contacted us for help. Our team arranged his rescue the very next day, and he’s now had a full health check. At six years old, he was in good condition, and has since been castrated, vaccinated against rabies and tetanus, and microchipped for identification.

Arthur and friends enjoy a tasty meal – funded by supporters like you. Thank you!

The team have named him Arthur, after one of our wonderful supporters. He’s now in the main herd and has settled in well. Arthur is very curious about everything around him – a sign he’s beginning to feel safe.

Stop Press! Just this week three more abandoned donkeys have joined our herd at the sanctuary. We’ll keep you updated on their progress soon.

It’s a huge relief to know all these donkeys are now safe. But their ongoing care all needs funding by our wonderful donors.

If you can, please send a gift today and help us care for all our rescued donkeys, like Theodora, Arthur and Deborah.

Thank you ♥️♥️

Everything we do is made possible by you. Your kindness supports the rescued donkeys in our sanctuaries who receive daily care, and it keeps our mobile vet teams working in some of the toughest places – in Egypt, the West Bank and Gaza – reaching donkeys, mules and horses who have no one else to turn to.

Thank you for bringing comfort and healing to these gentle animals.

Your donations will help us care for all our donkeys – including our new arrivals at the sanctuary. Thank you so much for caring.
