Our donkey update – 9th April 2026

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our recent appeals – whether that’s helping to fund a new community vet team in Egypt, or helping us provide first aid boxes for donkeys working in the brick kilns.

Your support is already helping us reach more animals in urgent need of care.

If you haven’t had the chance yet, there are two simple ways you can make a difference today – by helping bring vital veterinary care to working donkeys, or by equipping brick kiln stockmen with the tools to treat minor injuries quickly.

Today, I’d also love to share an update from our sanctuary – where your support is giving rescued donkeys like Hamish the care they deserve.

Update from Israel

Our sanctuary is home to over 180 rescue donkeys, all now safe and cared for. Every day, our team keep a close eye on them – making sure they stay healthy and happy. One of those donkeys is Hamish, who has been with us since 2015.

Hamish has lived at the sanctuary since 2015.

During a recent routine check, the team spotted a build-up of dental calculus on one of his teeth – more commonly known as tartar. While this is quite common, it can cause irritation and discomfort. If left untreated, it can lead to more serious problems like tooth decay.

An x-ray showed a large build up of tartar in Hamish’s mouth.

To understand the issue fully, Hamish had an X-ray, which clearly showed the build-up. Our vet, Rafik, then carried out a simple procedure to remove the tartar. Thanks to your support, Hamish is now much more comfortable and happily back with his herd.

Hamish was soon feeling so much more comfortable once the tartar was removed!

And there’s more good news – Deborah, who was rescued while pregnant, is doing well. The team are expecting her to give birth within the next month, and we can’t wait to share her story with you!

Thank you ♥️♥️

Your support helps us care for rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where they receive nutritious food, specialist care, and the safety of a forever home. You are also helping to fund our mobile vet teams in Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt, bringing vital veterinary treatment directly to working donkeys in desperate need.

Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Deborah’s foal is due very soon – we think in the next 2-4 weeks. We’ll keep you informed of this exciting news!

Thanks to you we are able to equip our vet teams with vital equipment – such as this ultrasound machine. Thank you.
