Our donkey update – 30th April 2026

This week, I wanted to show you exactly how your donations to our Easter appeal are already being put to work – and to say a heartfelt thank you.

Because of your kindness, I’m so pleased to share this first update – to show how you’re helping bring practical, immediate care to donkeys working in Egypt’s brick kilns through our new first aid boxes (pictured below).

And next week, I’m looking forward to sharing another update with you – introducing the new community vet team you’ve helped fund, and how they’re preparing to reach donkeys in urgent need.

I hope you’ll feel proud to see what you’ve made possible.

Update from Egypt

Thanks to your support, Dr Shaaban and the team have now introduced three first aid boxes into ‘green’ brick kilns – where donkey welfare has improved and animals are in good condition. So far, three kilns are part of this new approach, thanks to your Easter gifts, with seven more planned.

Moharram and a kiln owner with one of our newly installed and stocked first aid boxes – all thanks to you.

Each box contains the supplies stockmen need to treat minor wounds straight away, helping donkeys get the care they need without delay.

One of the stockmen receives first aid training.

Before introducing the boxes, the team carried out welfare assessments and reviewed stockmen’s existing knowledge. Training is now underway, giving them the skills and confidence to use the medicines and equipment properly.

The team is also teaching stockmen essential hoof care – helping keep donkeys healthy and comfortable.

Because of your support, donkeys can now receive immediate care for minor injuries – and our two mobile vet teams can focus on new ‘red’ brick kilns, where the need is far greater. Next week, we’ll introduce you to the new Egypt vet team (our third team), as they begin training before heading out into communities north of Cairo.

And that’s all thanks to you.

Thank you ♥️♥️

Your support helps us fund our vet teams in Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt, bringing vital veterinary treatment directly to working donkeys, mules and horses in desperate need. You are also caring for rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where they receive nutritious food, specialist care, and the safety of a forever home.

Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Next week we’ll update you on our new community vet team – working north of Cairo. Here you can see Dr Shaaban training up our new vet – Dr Ahmed.

Thanks to you we are able to equip our vet teams with vital equipment – such as this ultrasound machine. Thank you.
