Across the world, donkeys quietly keep life moving.
They carry water, food and people. They support families through the hardest of times. But too often, they do this while injured, exhausted or in pain.
This World Donkey Day, we’re shining a light on what donkeys give – and why they deserve care, protection and kindness in return.
Reaching donkeys wherever they are
Many donkeys never see a vet.
That’s why Safe Haven’s mobile vet teams in the West Bank, Egypt and Gaza travel out to local communities, brick kilns and war-torn landscapes to treat animals. They clean wounds, ease pain and giving vital medicines.
Responding in emergencies
In conflict zones and crisis areas, donkeys suffer alongside the people who rely on them.
Our Gaza vet team provides urgent treatment to animals facing injury, illness and extreme conditions – often in places where no other help exists.
Thanks to our mobile vet team, donkeys can receive proper assessments and surgery – giving them a real chance of recovery and a future free from discomfort.
A single procedure can turn a life of pain into a life of comfort for a donkey.
Providing lifelong sanctuary
Some donkeys cannot return to work. Or they’ve been abused and abandoned.
At our sanctuaries we rescue them, give ongoing care and the chance to feel safe again. For many donkeys, it’s the first time they’ve known a life without pain.
Why this matters
When a working donkey is in pain, a family feels it too.
When a working donkey is cared for, everything becomes a little more manageable – work continues, journeys are possible, and daily life carries on.
Helping a working donkey means helping far more than helping one animal.
Stand with donkeys this World Donkey Day
Donkeys give everything they have.
With your support, we can give something back – relief from pain, care in times of crisis, and a safe place to rest.
Because donkeys deserve more than endurance. They deserve our care.
