This Easter will you help donkeys in the West Bank?

It’s hard to overstate the contributions donkeys make to daily life in the West Bank.

They work as shepherd donkeys, herding and corralling flocks of sheep. They also toil as builder donkeys, transporting materials up stairs in narrow streets where access for cranes is impossible. And on farms they carry crops and drag ploughs.

Veterinary care in the West Bank is very expensive, out of reach to most people. That’s why our three vet teams are indispensable – the only hope for some working donkeys.

But without your support, we simply cannot keep our vets on the road providing free care to donkeys.

Safe Haven has three mobile veterinary teams in the West Bank – in Nablus, Hebron and the Jordan Valley – led by Dr Rakan, Dr Eyed and Dr Omran. Together the teams help thousands of working donkeys, mules and horses every year.

The free vet treatment they provide ranges from de-worming, tooth rasping and hoof trims, through to more urgent surgical intervention.

With your support, we can keep visiting animal markets, refugee camps and remote villages to help working donkeys in need.

From discarded

Blondie is one of the donkeys Dr Rakan has helped. He had been spotted lying on the streets of Asira, so badly injured he could not get up.

…and injured

Blondie was dangerously dehydrated and covered in wounds. Dr Rakan realised Blondie could no longer work and persuaded the donkey’s elderly owner to give Blondie over to him for care.

…to rescued ❤️💚

Blondie received emergency treatment from Dr Rakan – who saved Blondie’s life. He is now living in our new rescue centre in Arrana, where he’s thriving as part of the herd.

Your donations will help us to care for donkeys at the Sanctuary and Rescue Centre, as well as our vet clinics across the West Bank and in Egypt.

£10 | $13 could help pay for medicines like deworming, pain relie and antibiotics
£20 | $25 could help pay for life-saving hydrating fluids for other donkeys like Blondie
£50 | $60 could help pay for raspers and hoof trimmers to alleviate pain for working donkeys
£100 | $130 could pay for vehicle maintenance and fuel so that our mobile vet clinics can reach donkeys in more rural and cut off areas of West Bank
