One of our vets in the West Bank, Dr Rakan, recently shared this story of a young foal in urgent need – a story that shows just how much your kindness achieves.
Update from Dr Rakan in the West Bank
Recently, I was called out to help a tiny foal, just two months old, who had suffered a terrible injury. A sharp piece of metal had cut her cheek, jaw and even part of her tongue. She was so badly hurt that she couldn’t suckle from her mother – milk simply dribbled from her mouth as she tried to feed.
The little foal had been hurt by a sharp piece of metal, stopping her feeding.
To give her the best chance of healing, I placed her under general anaesthetic so I could properly examine and treat the wound. Her injuries required 29 stitches, followed by a tetanus shot, antibiotics and pain relief, to aid her recovery.
After treatment – the foal was able to feed properly.
Because she was still in pain and couldn’t be handled at home, I brought her and her mother back to our hospital in Nablus, where we were able to give them round-the-clock care.
The foal has fully recovered from her surgical procedure and is back home again.
And after just two weeks she was strong enough to return home – she was happy and healthy once again, reunited with her family.
