This week, I wanted to share a lovely example of how your support continues to make a difference to donkeys, long after a donation is made.
Earlier this year, our brick kiln team in Egypt introduced a new initiative – providing first aid boxes to stockmen. We funded ten first aid boxes, which contain basic medial supplies in how to care for wounds in an emergency.
Recently, when a donkey was badly injured in an accident, that training meant the stockman knew exactly what to do.

Update from Egypt
When a working donkey suffered a deep wound in an accident at the brick kilns, the stockman caring for him acted quickly. Earlier this year, thanks to your support, we had given him a donkey first aid box and provided practical training in emergency wound care.
As soon as the accident happened, he put that training into action. Using supplies from the first aid box, he carefully cleaned the donkey’s wound and covered it with a protective dressing.
This quick action helped keep dirt out of the wound and reduced the risk of infection while our mobile vet team made their way to him.
Thanks to the first aid boxes – made possible with your support – the stockman was able to protect the deep wound and prevent infection.
When the team arrived, they first examined the donkey carefully to make sure he had not suffered any other injuries.
Moharam then thoroughly cleaned the wound before Dr Shaaban carefully removed damaged and contaminated tissue. This process helps healthy tissue heal more effectively.
The donkey was sedated and given a local anaesthetic to numb the injured area. With Dr Khaled assisting, Dr Shaaban then began the delicate job of repairing the wound.
The donkey was also given antibiotics to protect against infection and anti-inflammatory medicine to ease his pain and swelling. He was prescribed complete rest while his injury healed.
Once our team arrived, the donkey received much-needed veterinary care to close the deep wound.
Before leaving, our team showed the stockman how to check the wound each day and change the dressings correctly. This meant he could continue caring for the donkey between visits – and quickly spot any signs that something was wrong.
Cases like this show why these first aid boxes and training are so valuable – as you can see the wound has now healed well.
The wound is now healing well – and the donkey is almost fully recovered.
