News from the Sanctuary
Every three months, our farrier, Shahaf, visits the Sanctuary for one of our all-important “hoofing days.” These sessions are hard work – but they’re also one of the most important parts of caring for our donkeys.
In preparation, the team gets everything ready for a busy day of trimming, checking and tending to hooves. It’s not just about hoof health – it’s also a valuable chance to observe each donkey up close, notice any changes in their movement or behaviour, and understand more about their individual needs.
Thomas keeps a close eye on the farrier’s work – he’s always ready to lend a hoof!
From our shy donkeys to the confident helpers (like Thomas!), every donkey receives care tailored to their needs. And it’s all thanks to your support.
Gillian (left) and Milky (right) are the best of friends at the Sanctuary
Milky and Gillian have been inseparable for as long as we can remember. Milky, the brown donkey, arrived at the Sanctuary 12 years ago with her mum, while Gillian was born at the Sanctuary 14 years ago.
These two have a bond that’s hard to miss. They’re often found side by side, and one of their favourite things is gently rubbing their heads together – a sweet little ritual you can see above and in a short video on our blog page.
Thanks to your support, Winston enjoys the freedom, friendship and comfort every donkey deserves – along with the occasional pamper session!
Winston is around 20 years old, and his best friend is Itamar. They’re rarely apart – but even the closest of buddies need a little break now and then!
When Winston fancies some “me time,” he finds one of the body brushes we’ve set up around the Sanctuary and gives himself a good scratch. It’s his own version of a donkey spa day.

It’s your support that makes all of this possible – from essential farrier visits to the daily care that helps each donkey stay healthy, happy and loved.
And to bring a little extra joy to your day, here’s one final video: our donkeys being released into the paddock for breakfast, including a cheeky little selfie by Jenga.
Thank you for being such an important part of their lives.
Thank you ♥️♥️
It’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in the West Bank, Gaza and Egypt. You’re also helping to fund our hospital in Nablus in the West Bank and care for our rescue donkeys in Arrana, as well as our donkeys at our sanctuary in Israel.
Breakfast time at the Sanctuary is the donkey’s favourite time of day.
