Thank you so much for your kindness in supporting our recent appeal for first aid boxes in Egypt’s brick kilns.
Your generosity means our team are now able to introduce ten new first aid boxes and train up the klin stockmen and donkey handlers to better care for their animals. We’ll bring you an update very soon – including photos of what you’ve helped to support.
Today, I’d love to share an update from Dr Rakan in the West Bank – another wonderful example of your support in action. Thanks to you, our new surgical room at our hospital in Nablus is already helping animals in need, including a young foal who needed urgent treatment to live a healthy life.
Thank you very much, we couldn’t help so many donkeys, mules and horses without you.

Update from Nablus, the West Bank
One of the latest successful cases in our new surgical room was a four-month-old foal born with an umbilical hernia. This is a soft swelling at the belly button caused by a small opening in the abdominal wall.

Dr Rakan and Wael brought the foal back to Nablus – to operate on a umbilical hernia.
While some small hernias can close on their own, this one was larger and causing discomfort, especially after feeding. On examination, we confirmed that surgery was needed to prevent future complications.

The little foal was kept in an enclosed stall to be properly examined.
A full assessment of the foal was carried out before proceeding with surgery under general anaesthesia.

The foal’s surgery is only possible thanks to your support. Thank you.
The procedure took around 30 minutes, and she was soon back on her feet, standing beside her mother.

The foal soon recovered from the surgery and was back on her feet.
Now, just a few weeks after the procedure she is doing very well. The swelling has gone, and she is free from pain and discomfort.
This is what your support makes possible. With our new dedicated surgical space, Dr Rakan can treat foals like this safely – giving them the best possible start in life.
Thank you ♥️♥️
Your support helps us care for rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where they receive nutritious food, specialist care, and the safety of a forever home. You are also helping to fund our vet teams in Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt, bringing vital veterinary treatment directly to working donkeys, mules and horses in desperate need.
Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Just a few weeks later Dr Rakan visited the foal and he was pleased to see she had made a full recovery.
Thanks to you we are able to equip our vet teams with vital equipment – such as this ultrasound machine. Thank you.
