This week, I wanted to share some important news. At the end of this year, our Chief Executive Officer, Andy Foxcroft, will retire after many years of dedicated service to the charity. Andy has played an enormously important role in Safe Haven’s story, helping to grow our work across Israel, the West Bank, Egypt and Gaza. Thanks to his leadership – and your loyal support – thousands of donkeys, horses and mules have received sanctuary, veterinary treatment and the care they so desperately needed.
I’m also delighted to tell you that Niall Duffy has been appointed as our next Chief Executive Officer and will join the charity on 5th October 2026. Niall will work closely alongside Andy before taking up the role fully when Andy retires at the end of the year.
Niall brings a deep commitment to animal welfare and a strong belief in the difference Safe Haven makes, not only for animals, but also for the families and communities who depend upon them. We look forward to introducing him properly over the coming months.
This is an important new chapter for Safe Haven, but the heart of our work remains unchanged. We will continue to be there for donkeys and other working animals facing pain, neglect and hardship – and we can only do that with the kindness of supporters like you.
Thank you, as always, for being part of our work.

Update from our Sanctuary in Israel
It was recently time for the herd’s regular weigh-in at our sanctuary, and we’re delighted to report that all of our rescued donkeys are maintaining a healthy weight. Regular monitoring helps us ensure every donkey receives the care and nutrition they need to stay happy and healthy.

Gervais and her mum Deborah have been enjoying their own time out in the paddock too – and will soon be introduced back into the herd again.
Our vet also visited the sanctuary to carry out routine health checks. Young Gervais received a clean bill of health and is growing exactly as she should. Once she reaches four months old, she’ll be ready for her first vaccinations to help protect her as she continues to develop.

The hot summer means the donkeys are less active – often choosing to snooze or roll around in the paddock.
Meanwhile, Murphy had a check-up ahead of some planned dental treatment. At over 20 years old, he needs a little extra support to keep his teeth in good condition. Regular dental care is essential for older donkeys, helping them eat comfortably and maintain a healthy weight.

One of Blossom’s favourite things is the salt lick.
There was also plenty of excitement for Blossom, who has been enjoying one of her favourite treats – a salt lick block. These provide valuable minerals and nutrients, while also keeping inquisitive donkeys entertained.

And finally, there’s more good news from rescued foal Theodora. She is growing quickly and becoming increasingly confident around the rest of the herd. She’s particularly fond of spending time with her friend Burnie, and it’s been wonderful to watch their friendship blossom as she settles into sanctuary life.
Thank you ♥️♥️
Your support helps us fund our vet teams in Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt, bringing vital veterinary treatment directly to working donkeys, mules and horses in desperate need. You are also caring for rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where they receive nutritious food, specialist care, and the safety of a forever home.
Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

World cup fever has hit the sanctuary too. Here two of our rescue donkeys enjoy a little game – safe in the knowledge they’re cared for, all thanks to you.
