Our donkey update – 29th January 2026

As the winter weather continues in Israel, life at our sanctuary settles into a quieter, gentler rhythm.

The rain has recently returned, and the donkeys are making the most of warm indoor spaces. Our most recent arrivals are settling in nicely and our sanctuary team are preparing for a very special birth in the weeks ahead.

I wanted to share a little snapshot of what’s been happening, and how your support is making all of this possible.

Our update from Israel

It’s been raining again in Israel, and the donkeys have been quick to seek out the warmth and shelter of their indoor areas. On wet days like these, the sanctuary is a perfect haven for our rescues – providing a cosy, dry environment where the donkeys can rest, socialise and feel safe.

Rainy days means our donkeys spend more time indoors – and plenty of curious noses keeping an eye on our staff.

Our two latest rescues, Anat and Arbel, have settled in beautifully. These young donkeys were rescued in November after being found roaming the streets of Kiryat Shemona in northern Israel. They had previously been tied to a pole and were later released by someone, leaving them vulnerable and alone.

Having been through so much together, Anat and Arbel are closely bonded.

Now safe at the sanctuary, they’re enjoying the company of the other donkeys, exploring their new surroundings and starting to make friends. Watching them relax and grow in confidence has been a real joy for the team.

Whether indoors or out, our two new rescues are inseparable.

There’s also some very special news on the horizon. Deborah is expected to give birth in March, and the team has been busy getting everything ready.

Deborah has been moved into our mother and baby area, along with Theodora, her companion. Having a calm, familiar donkey alongside her will help reduce stress and give her reassurance during this time.

Deborah and Theodora have settled into our mother and baby unit, ready for the new arrival.

Thank you, as always, for being a vital part of our work. From rainy days indoors, to settling in new rescues, and new life on the way, your support gives our rescue donkeys safety and care they can depend on.

Thank you ♥️♥️

Everything we do is made possible by you. Your donations are helping us to care for all the rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank. You are also funding our mobile vet teams in Gaza, Egypt and the West Bank, to provide vital veterinary care for working donkeys.

Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Here’s Stanley – just one of the rescue donkeys being cared for with your support. Thank you.
