I wanted to begin by saying thank you for all of your support – please know that you are directly helping donkeys, mules and horses in need.
Your kindness is helping our mobile teams reach animals in some of the most difficult and dangerous places imaginable.
We’ll be telling you more about the current issues our West Bank teams are having in the coming weeks, but today I’d like to focus on Gaza and the story of a donkey whose situation was desperate. But thanks to the support of people like you, he was not left to suffer.

Update from Gaza
Early last week, we received an urgent call from the owner of a donkey living with a displaced family in a refugee camp. The donkey had collapsed. We quickly set out to reach him – but the journey was extremely difficult. Roads were badly damaged by rubble and debris, making travel slow and dangerous.

The donkey was simply too weak to stand – our team soon set to work to provide treatment.
When we reached the donkey, he was suffering from severe exhaustion and dehydration. He also had acute laminitis, a very painful condition that causes inflammation inside the hoof. His hooves were badly overgrown and he had lost a significant amount of muscle.
He was simply too weak to stand.

Thanks to our team providing treatment – the donkey was soon back on his feet.
We began emergency treatment straight away, giving fluids to help correct his dehydration and anti-inflammatory medicine to ease his pain. We carefully trimmed his overgrown hooves to make him more comfortable.
Since then, our team have carried out several follow-up visits, continuing his treatment and monitoring him closely as he recovers. His owner was deeply grateful to everyone who makes this work possible. In such desperate circumstances, this care meant everything.

Our team treat hundreds of animals every week – treating wounds.
To many people, this may sound like the story of one donkey. But for his displaced family, his recovery means so much more. He is their only means of transport. He helps them carry water, food, firewood and the essentials they need each day to survive. By helping him recover, our team helped restore a vital lifeline to a family living through unimaginable hardship.
This is just one story among many your compassion is making possible – thank you.
Thank you ♥️♥️
Your support helps us fund our vet teams in Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt, bringing vital veterinary treatment directly to working donkeys, mules and horses in desperate need. You are also caring for rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where they receive nutritious food, specialist care, and the safety of a forever home.
Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Thank you for supporting Safe Haven
