I wanted to share a lovely update from our rescue centre in Arrana, in the West Bank, where around 34 rescued donkeys are now safe in our care.
Every donkey at Arrana has known hardship in some form. Some have suffered neglect, others have been badly treated or simply had nowhere safe to go. Thanks to your kindness, they now have the food, space, care and attention they need to recover and live peacefully.
Your support helps make this possible every day. From routine health checks and hoof care, to food, shelter and the work of our team on the ground, you are helping to give these donkeys the settled, secure lives they deserve.
Thank you so much for being part of their story.

Update from our rescue centre in Arrana, the West Bank
Two weeks ago, Dr Rakan and Wael visited our rescue centre in Arrana, in the West Bank, to check on the donkeys in our care. The visit was a chance to make sure every donkey was healthy, comfortable and receiving the individual vet care they need.

Before his rescue, Rakan was cruelly set alight and suffered such terrible injuries that one of his ears had to be amputated. Today, Rakan is safe, loved and thriving.
Wael had a particularly busy day trimming hooves. A donkey’s hooves grow continuously and need regular care to prevent discomfort, pain and longer-term problems. For donkeys who have already endured so much, this simple but essential treatment helps keep them moving comfortably.

Fitting new name tags is a constant job with our naughty donkeys!
The team also fitted new head collars and name tags. This is an ongoing task at Arrana, as our donkeys seem to have become experts at removing each other’s head collars!
The name tags help the team identify each donkey quickly, so they can keep track of their care and make sure every animal gets the right support.

Blondie is one of 34 rescue donkeys at Arrana.
Mahmoud, who looks after the donkeys every day, was there to help throughout the visit. He plays such an important role in keeping the rescue centre running smoothly and making sure the herd are safe, settled and well cared for.

When Dr Rakan visits, he makes sure their vaccines and deworming treatments are all up-to-date.
With plenty of room to explore, the donkeys at Arrana are often seen racing around the paddock, playing together and enjoying life at their own pace. After everything they have been through, it is wonderful to see them free to simply be donkeys – safe, loved and full of character.
Thank you for helping to give them this life.
Thank you ♥️♥️
Your support helps us fund our vet teams in Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt, bringing vital veterinary treatment directly to working donkeys, mules and horses in desperate need. You are also caring for rescue donkeys at our sanctuaries in Israel and the West Bank, where they receive nutritious food, specialist care, and the safety of a forever home.
Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Thank you for supporting Safe Haven
