Update from the West Bank – 8th October 2026
You may remember this donkey from our recent appeal – today, we’re so pleased to share how far she’s come.
Dr Rakan was delighted to see how much better she looked when he recently caught up with her. When he first treated her, her body was covered in bites and scratches following a dog attack, and her ears were severely injured.

Her injuries were distressing, but help was at hand. Dr Rakan and Wael (pictured) were able to treat her wounds and provided pain relief to help her begin recovering.
After the attack, Dr Rakan and Wael carefully treated her wounds and provided antibiotics, pain relief and ointments to help her heal and prevent infection. Dr Rakan also vaccinated her against tetanus and rabies.
Her ears were particularly badly damaged. Rather than put her through an unnecessary operation, the team focused first on helping the wounds heal and watching her progress.
Your kindness helps put this skilled, practical veterinary care within reach of donkeys who need it.

With treatment from our team and care from her owner at home, her wounds began to heal. Step by step, she was making progress.
This donkey has lived with her family in Askar refugee camp for many years and is particularly close to the children. Her owner wanted to care for her at home, so Dr Rakan supplied medicines and explained how to look after her wounds.
Giving owners the knowledge and support to care for their animals is an important part of the team’s work, helping treatment continue after a veterinary visit.

Her wounds have healed and she’s gained much-needed weight – wonderful progress after everything she’s been through.
Although her wounds have healed, her ears remain badly damaged. Dr Rakan is still considering whether corrective surgery could help her.
For now, his priority is for her to become stronger and reach a healthier weight. He gave her owner vitamins and advice about her diet to help her continue making progress. When she is ready, he will discuss the options with her owner and decide what is best for her.
This is the difference your kindness helps make for donkeys like her, and for all the working animals who need our help across the Middle East.
Thank you ♥️♥️
