Thank you.
I know you hear those words from us often, but they truly matter. Everything you’ll read below is happening because you chose to care about working donkeys and horses.
Your support means our teams can respond quickly when a donkey, mule or horse is in distress. It also means they can be there day after day, running mobile vet clinics and carrying out regular health checks – not just stepping in during moments of crisis.
Today, I’d like to take you to the West Bank, where your support is already hard at work. Your kindness is protecting so many animals who would otherwise go without care.

An update from the West Bank
Across the West Bank, Safe Haven for Donkeys’ three mobile veterinary teams continue to travel hundreds of miles across towns and villages, bringing essential care to working animals who would otherwise go without treatment.
In recent weeks, Dr Rakan and the Nablus mobile clinic have seen first-hand how early intervention can completely change a life.

When Dr Rakan first met the horse, she was suffering with a painful wound.
At the busy Nablus animal market, Dr Rakan spotted a young horse he had treated just weeks earlier. When she first arrived, she had a long, deep wound on her foreleg – around 13 centimetres in length – caused by a sharp piece of metal.
The team acted immediately, cleaning and tending the wound, administering antibiotics and pain relief, and giving her a tetanus vaccination to protect her from a potentially fatal disease.

Dr Rakan carried out a thorough health check to make sure the horse was in good condition.
When Dr Rakan carried out a follow up health check, the difference was clear. The wound had healed completely. She was moving freely and had gained weight – a sign that she was recovering well.

The horse is now a picture of good health – thanks to Dr Rakan and your support.
In another village near Salfit, the team met a gentle donkey who had been struggling this time last year. She had been underweight, with sore, irritated skin beneath constantly watering eyes. She had never received even basic preventive care, including deworming.
Dr Rakan suspected a parasitic infection known as Habronema. In warm weather, flies can spread the parasite, causing painful skin lesions – often called summer sores – and persistent eye irritation.

When Dr Rakan first met the donkey she was in poor health – with sore watery eyes.
Treatment began straight away. The team gently flushed her tear ducts to ease the discomfort and began a full deworming programme. She was given pain relief, anti-inflammatory medication and specialist eye ointment.
Because she was underweight, the team worked closely with her owner on a feeding plan and added vitamin support to help rebuild her strength.
Her owner followed every instruction carefully.

The change in the donkey is remarkable – her eyes are fully recovered and her coat is gleaming.
When the team returned a few months later, the transformation was remarkable. She was healthy, bright-eyed and strong, her white coat clean and gleaming.
This is what your support makes possible.
Not just emergency care, but consistent treatment and follow-up visits. Not just short-term relief, but lasting change – for working animals and the families who depend on them.
Thank you for caring
