Our donkey update – 5th March 2026

Our sanctuary in Israel is home to around 180 rescued donkeys who will live out their lives in safety and comfort. Every day our team works hard to give them the care and kindness they deserve.

Update from Israel

This week, team member Moussa brought the donkeys a very special treat – fresh mallow leaves. It didn’t take long for word to spread! As soon as Moussa arrived with armfuls of greenery, he was surrounded by eager noses and long ears, all hoping to get a tasty snack.

The donkeys soon gather when they see Moussa arrive with some treats!

This week, team member Moussa brought the donkeys a very special treat – fresh mallow leaves. It didn’t take long for word to spread! As soon as Moussa arrived with armfuls of greenery, he was surrounded by eager noses and long ears, all hoping to get a tasty snack.

Moussa is suddenly very popular as he hands out the mallow snacks.

As you can see from the photos, the donkeys absolutely love them. Moussa quickly became the most popular person in the sanctuary as he made his way through the herd sharing out the leaves.

Moments like this may seem simple, but they mean a lot. After the hardship many of our donkeys have faced, being able to enjoy small treats and gentle attention is part of what makes sanctuary life so special.

Dominic is living his best life.

Alongside enjoying their favourite treats, our donkeys have been relaxing in the spring sunshine and spending time with their friends.

Dusty and Moshe have been looking particularly content, while Dominic and Oliver were keen to investigate what was going on around the yard.

Our donkeys are very inquisitive when photos are taken – here’s Dusty to say hello.

And mum-to-be Deborah continues to grow bigger by the day as we wait for the arrival of her foal. Our team is keeping a close eye on her to make sure everything is progressing well – and we will of course keep you updated with any news!

We’re pleased to say Deborah is doing well – happy and content as she awaits the new arrival.

Thank you ♥️♥️

Thank you for caring for these gentle animals.

Moshy is just one of the rescue donkeys you are helping to care for .

Thank you so much.

Thanks to you we are able to equip our vet teams with vital equipment – such as this ultrasound machine. Thank you.
