See Dr Eliran filing Amelia’s teeth

We're pleased to say that Amelia received here dental treatment from Dr Eliran this week - he filed her teeth to making eating far more comfortable. Donkey teeth continue to grow throughout their life, so without filing, sharp barbs can grow which prevent the donkey eating properly. This means they can lose weight, which is particularly worrying when it's an older donkey. Amelia is now far happier, and will join Group C where she'll receive special enriched food and chopped hay. Here's Dr Eliran at work: [embed]https://youtu.be/URxj6bmhtMY[/embed]

Amelia at the Sanctuary needs her teeth filing!

This week, Moussa noticed that Amelia is looking a little slow and weak. Following a visit from Dr Eliran, it's been decided she needs her teeth filing! Donkeys need to have their teeth kept in tip top condition to help them eat. We'll keep you updated on Amelia's treatment but in the meantime here's a video update from Dusty: [embed]https://youtu.be/_uySEetR75k[/embed]

Veterinary care for Joyce at the Sanctuary

Although Russell's eye is now recovered and he's back with the main herd, poor Joyce has also had problems with her eye this week. Here you can see Dr Eliran, the vet, washing her eyes and ‘painting’ them to check for possible ulcers. Dr Eliran then used Joyce's own blood to produce a natural serum, which will act as a medicine for the ulcer. Joyce will receive this together with two types of eye drops for the next five days. Thank you for all your support which helps to pay for all the veterinary care at the Sanctuary:

Dr Rakan’s August update

Dr Rakan and Nour have been hard at work this month visiting many, many donkeys across Nablus and the surrounding area. He's sent us this update: "Much of our work is in very remote communities across the West Bank. Nour and I travel hundreds of kilometres every week to treat working donkeys. I hope my video below gives you a sense of this". [video width="848" height="480" mp4="https://www.safehaven4donkeys.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Nablus-team-video-remote.mp4" poster="https://www.safehaven4donkeys.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Screenshot-2022-08-09-at-11.43.42.png"][/video] "The last few weeks have seen us visit different communities, such as Balata, a refugee camp. One of the donkeys we helped there provides a livelihood to her owner and his family. We were pleased to be able to provide a new harness to replace the heavy, harsh old one. You can see the new harness below alongside the old harness, which was padded with old bedding. The donkey will be much happier now and this is all thanks to your support to Safe Haven and the work we do in Israel and the West Bank": "We have also visited shepherd donkeys - they are vital support in looking after sheep as they bond with the herd.
