Rodney was confiscated by a local man from a group of youths who were abusing him.
Petunia was first rescued with Elvis, who we believe might be her twin, early in 2001 and the two donkeys were homed out to a kindly local man. Sadly, he could no longer keep the donkeys and so they came back to the sanctuary.

Mistletoe was rescued with her foal Jingles and another foal Baubles, from the donkey market in the Palestinian city of Nablus.
Jacob was found wounded in the Arab village of Tira not far from Tayibe. He has a distinctive Star of David shaped scar of his hindquarters, leading us to believe he must at some point have been deliberately cut or burned.
Butch Cassidy was found on a kibbutz where he was taking an interest in someone’s female donkey. Noone knows where he came from but he had obviously been well treated as he was in great condition.
Francesco was only just over two months old when he came to the sanctuary. His mother had sustained a serious injury and was too ill to feed her foal.
McQueen was found as a young stray foal. His mother was nowhere in sight and poor McQueen was being beaten and battered with sticks.
