2012 Looking forward to the year ahead

Welcome to Safe Haven and thank you for wishing to know more about our work here in Israel and Palestine.

When I gave up my job with British Airways 12 years ago and moved to Israel, I was driven by the desire to help, as much as I could on my own, the donkeys I had seen working and living in such miserable conditions.  I had no idea then that I was starting out on a journey which would make Safe Haven for Donkeys, my charity, home to over 160 resident donkeys, 4 horses and 2 mules, set up a mobile and permanent clinic and run training courses in Palestine for local farriers as well as education programmes. Rescuing animals who are destined to die of starvation after being abandoned on busy roads or who are too ill or old to work anymore is only one strand of my work – my long-term aim is to change attitudes at grass roots level through education and care, teaching that love and respect for your animal will bring rewards all round as many families rely on their donkey as their only form of transport for earning a living to put food on the table.

My work has been made possible by the wonderful support I have received from our supporters in the UK and all around the world and this loyal and generous support has been a constant source of strength and inspiration to me over the years when the going got tough and my courage and determination were in danger of failing and I will be forever grateful for that.
